Beijing Olympics
The Beijing Olympics was and always will be a momentous occasion. Held in August 2008, the capital city of China that is Beijing came alive with the rustles of sports fans rooting for their favourite athletes. International sportsmen, athletes and Olympic followers from the different corners of the world grazed the multi-sport event. Beijing Olympics marked the third time that the Olympic games were held in Asia. Beijing was granted the Games, competing with more than four competitors, with the help of their extensive investments on the newest facilities as well as their transportation system.
The Games were held in about 37 venues, 12 of which were made especially for the Olympics. With the theme Dancing Beijing, millions of Olympic fans from around the world took notice of the Summer Olympics.
During the course of the Beijing Olympics, some 43 world records were established and broken, while 132 Olympic records were made and set. Most gold medals went to Chinese athletes, thanks to their agility and the home court advantage, while the United states won the most medals, totalling 110.
About 204 National Olympic Committees joined the Games, while 86 countries rose above the others, winning at least a single medal.
